Many different architectural features were constructed for Universal Exhibitions in Paris, some of which have become famous tourist attractions and landmarks like the Eiffel Tower, and the Palais de Chaillot was constructed for the 1937 World Fair.
There were numerous different artists and sculptors that received orders for different architectural features on new buildings, and in this first HD photo you can see one of the reliefs, which was sculpted for a facade of the Palais de Chaillot by Claude Grange.
But here you can see a close up showing some of the detail on this relief by Claude Grange who was born in 1883 and served during World War I in the marines where he became a captain, but prior to being called up for service, he had studied to become a French sculptor.
So after the war had ended, Claude Grange received many orders for monuments and war memorials, which are his best known works and can be seen all over France in places such as Verdun, yet he also produced busts and reliefs including this one, plus received numerous medals and awards throughout his lifetime.
However, we took this photograph as we were in the Jardins du Trocadero looking up towards the central section of the Palais de Chaillot where the Theatre de Chaillot is housed, and as you can see, this relief is the sixth one on the facade, when you are counting from the left hand side.
