Known as a Fronton in French, this first HD photo shows a Pediment on the Aile de Flore wing of the former Palais du Louvre, and unfortunately, so far we have been unable to discover the name of this allegorical sculpture, yet the fact that the two young children are sitting on fish, we feel it is likely to relate to river commerce, marine life, or something similar.
However, this Pediment was sculpted by Nicolas Victor Vilain and just known as Victor Vilain, he was born in Paris in 1818 and studied under James Pradier to become a French sculptor, initially coming second then winning the Prix de Rome.
After his return to Paris, Victor Vilain received numerous different public commissions for statues and sculptures on many famous tourist attractions, including no less than nine for The Louvre including the one, plus others for places such as churches like the Eglise Saint Roch and the Tour Saint Jacques, etc.
Yet this photograph show the top part of the Aile de Flore where the Pediment is located, and if you are standing within the Cour du Carrousel looking towards the facade of this wing of the Louvre Museum, then this is positioned sixth from the left hand side.
