This first HD photo shows a bas relief that is located on the north western facade of the Palais de Chaillot, which was constructed for the 1937 World Fair in Paris and is now home to the several different museums including the Musee de l'Homme.
Unfortunately, we have been unable to find much information about the artist, yet born in 1885 and study at the Ecole des Beau-Arts in Paris, he became a sculptor, and as you will see, in the bottom left hand corner of this sculpture, it has been signed with the name Antoine Kartorio, but there were actually numerous different French sculptors who were commissioned to produce statues and sculptures for this building.
Yet you will find that there are actually two different entirely separate wings for the Palais de Chaillot with different iconography and sculptures on each, and this wing, which also holds the Musee de la Marine, has bas reliefs depicting different continents and navigation.
Therefore, even though we have been unable to find out an exact name for this bas relief, as you saw in the previous photograph, we are assuming that the figure on the left depicts an Arabian female who is next to a camel, and the female to the right depicts an African woman with an elephant, so hence two different continents. However, we have also seen this relief sculpture referred to as L'Afrique, translating to The Africa.
