This first HD photo shows the left hand side lion statue, which is in a laying position, and made out of stone this was produced by Emmanuel Fremiet who was born in Paris in 1824 and first exhibited a work at the Paris Salon at the young age of 19, focusing mainly on animal sculptures and statues.
So here you can see a close up photograph showing the realistic features of the lions face, and becoming a renowned animalier, Emmanuel Fremiet sculpted many different wild animals including bears, etc, yet he also produced equestrian statues, and his most famous one is the equestrian statue of Joan of Arc in Paris.
Yet this next image shows the location of the lion statue on the third level balustrade by the roof line on the wing of The Louvre Museum called the Guichets Lesdiguieres, which has three archways beneath.
And this, along with another statue of a lion by Emmanuel Fremiet facing the opposite way on the same facade, can be seen in the direction facing the River Seine from the courtyard called the Cour du Carrousel.
