This first HD photo shows the statue of a Sentinelle, which is a Sentinel in English and being someone who stands guard, this is one of two located on the Pavillon de Flore of the former Palais du Louvre.
So this next image shows a closer view of the Sentinel, which was produced by Pierre Jules Cavelier who was born in Paris in 1814 and became a student of David d'Angers to become a French sculptor, winning the Prix de Rome in 1842 and receiving numerous public commissions throughout a prolific career.
In fact, not only did he work on The Louvre, but he produced statues and sculptures for many other tourist attractions in Paris including the Palais Garnier, Tour Saint Jacques, Gare du Nord, etc, yet Pierre Jules Cavelier was also appointed a professor at the Ecole des Beaux Arts, with a couple of his famous students being Louis Ernest Barrias and Eugene Guillaume.
Now this photograph shows the top section of the Pavillon de Flore with the two Sentinels and located on the western facade of this pavilion, which looks over to the courtyard of the Louvre Museum called the Cour du Carrousel, you will find that this particular Sentinelle is positioned on the third level balustrade to the right hand side of the centre.
