Some parts of the former Palais du Louvre date back many centuries, and in this first HD photo you can see a bas relief allegorical sculpture called La Justice that was produced between 1556 and 1562 by a French sculptor called Jean Goujon.
Unfortunately, details about Jean Goujon are very vague with even his year of birth or where he was born are not exactly known, however, there are records showing that he worked on different churches including the Saint-Macou in Rouen and then the Saint Germain l'Auxerrois facing The Louvre in Paris.
But after working on the church frequented by the royal family who resided at the former Palais du Louvre, records mention Jean Goujon as being the official sculptor at The Louvre between the years 1556 and 1562, working on lots of architectural features like caryatids and the sculpture you can see in this close up photograph showing the main part of the allegory depicting Justice with the winged female figure holding scales.
However, this photo shows the location of La Justice above a door in a covered walkway that has a vaulted ceiling, which takes you through to the courtyard of the Musee du Louvre called the Cour Carree.
Now this is actually within the Aile Est, which in English translates to East Wing, and it is within a section called the Passage du Pavillon Saint Germain l'Auxerrois, which was named after the church that is opposite this entrance to The Louvre.
