You will find that La Force et la Paix translates in English to The Strength and Peace and in this first HD photo you can see the entire sculpture that is located on the facade of the Pavillon Richelieu that was sculpted by Theodore Charles Gruyere.
Yet this next image shows a close up of the centre of La Force et la Paix that shows the Imperial Eagle, which was an emblem of the Empire during the reign of Napoleon, and this was executed between the years of 1852 and 1857 when the facades of the former Palais du Louvre were being renovated and numerous additional embellishments were being added.
So, here you can see the immense detail that went into producing this sculpture produced by Theodore Charles Gruyere who was born in 1814 and entered the Ecole des Beaux arts in 1830 under the direction of two famous French sculptors, being Jules Ramey and Auguste Dumont.
Theodore Charles Gruyere received many public commissions for The Louvre including this one of The Strength and Peace, but also for other famous tourist attractions in Paris like the Palais Garnier, Tour Saint-Jacques, Hotel de Ville, the Gare du Nord and churches like the Eglise de Saint germain l'Auxerrois.
But this photograph also shows the location of La Force et la Paix, which is located on the Pavillon Richelieu on the second level balustrade in between two other statues, and you can see this from the courtyard of the Louvre Museum called the Cour Napoleon, which is the central pavilion facing south to the I M Pei pyramids.
