This first HD photo shows the statue called Les Fruits, which as you can guess, translates to The Fruits and this is one of the eight golden statues located at the Palais de Chaillot that were commissioned for the 1937 World Fair in Paris.
The Fruits was a public commission awarded to the artist Felix Desruelles, which was sculpted in bronze, then gilded and placed on a stone pedestal within a square called the Parvis des Droits de l'Homme, although when it was first put in place the square was known as the Esplanade du Trocadero.
Here you can see a close up photograph showing the face of the young woman with her plaited, or braided hair, which makes the statue of Les fruits look even younger and innocent complete with a smock style dress.
So this photo shows the entire statue with the young woman holding her hands behind her back, which looks impressive against the sky as a backdrop, and you will find that there are four golden statues on each side of the Parvis des Droits de l'Homme facing each other.
And Les Fruits is located next to the south western wing of the Palais de Chaillot, and if you are looking towards the Eiffel Tower, then this would be positioned to the right hand side nearest to the Esplanade, which provides the fabulous elevated views to this famous landmark.
Yet here you can see a close up photo of the artists name, Felix Desruelles, that has been engraved onto the circular bronze base of The Fruits golden statue, which is positioned just below the right foot of the female figure.
Now Felix Desruelles was born in Valenciennes within the Nord-pas-de-Calais region of France in 1865 with a full name of Felix Alexandre Desruelles, and studying to become a French sculptor, he was a runner up for the Prix de Rome, yet won a gold medal at the 1900 Universal Exhibition, or World Fair in Paris.
Felix Desruelles produced numerous different statues and busts throughout his career including this gilded statue of Les Fruits that you can see as we were looking towards the Place du Trocadero, yet he also became a member of the Institut de France in Paris prior to passing away in 1943.
However, many works are now held within museums, although this French sculptor is most famous for his war memorials called Monument aux Morts, that were commissioned to him after World War I, with the majority of these to be found in public places within the north of France close to where he grew up, like the most recognised one in Arras.
