This first HD photo shows the stone statue called La Sculpture, which in English translates to The Sculpture, although it seem more appropriate that it should be The Sculptor and this is located on the balustrades by the roof line of the Pavillon Lesdiguieres.
But here you can see a close up of La Sculpture, which shows a man that has been working on a sculpture, with the face showing next to his left leg, and this was produced by Augustin Alexandre Dumont who was born in Paris in 1801, and from a long line of French sculptors he followed in their footsteps, yet became known as Auguste Dumont.
Having studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts and winning the Prix de Rome, upon his return to France from the Villa Medici, he received many public commissions that can still be seen today at different tourist attractions around Paris, including the statue on top of the Vendome Column and the July Column, plus of course this statue and others for The Louvre Museum.
So here you can see the entire Pavillon Lesdiguieres, as you may be able to tell from the plaque with its gold lettering above the archway, and we took this photo from the courtyard called the Cour du Carrousel, looking in a southerly direction towards the River Seine.
However, to be even more precise, The Sculpture by Auguste Dumont is actually the statue located to the right hand side of the roof line of this pavilion on the balustrades of the third level, yet we have noticed that some places reference this as located on the Guichet Lesdiguieres, which is the wing in between the two pavilions in this section of the Louvre Museum.
