This first HD photo shows the statue group, which is located on the Pavillon de Flore Nord, and originally it was the French sculptor Jean-Joseph Perraud who was assigned this task, but when he passed away, the architect Hector Lefeul commissioned Tony Noel to produce this sculpture.
Unfortunately, we have been unable to find out a name for this statue group, but it was sculpted back in 1876 for the construction of the new facade of the pavilion, which was after the destruction of the Palais des Tuileries and during the ongoing restoration and elaborate decorations that were being added to the Palais du Louvre.
So, this photo shows a close up of the statue group by Tony Noel, who was born in Paris in 1845 with a full name of Edme Anthony Paul Noel, and entering the Ecole des Beaux Arts studying under people such as Eugene Lequesne, he ended up winning the Prix de Rome, furthering his studies at the Villa Medici before returning to Paris.
From there on Tony Noel became a well recognised and prolific French sculptor producing numerous different statues, monuments and busts, along with receiving many different public commissions for tourist attractions such as the Hotel de Ville, Chateau Chantilly, the Grand Palais, and of course, The Louvre Museum.
But in this photograph you can see the top part of the Pavillon de Flore Nord, and hence its name, this is the facade that faces north into the courtyard of The Louvre called the Cour du Carrousel, and as you can see, the statue group is located in the centre on the third level below the pediment sculpture.
