Golden Flore statue by artist Marcel Gimond
This first HD photo shows a statue called Flore, which is actually spelt Flora in English, and classed as one of the golden statues, it was initially made of bronze, then had a golden colour put over it, which is why you will see that some of this covering has come off.

Yet this next photo shows a panoramic of the golden statue, which is located on the Parvis des Droits de l'Homme that was renamed this in 1985, although this area is still often referred to as the Esplanade du Trocadero or the Parvis du Trocadero from when the former palace was on this site.

Here you can see a close up showing the face of the statue called Flore and in Roman mythology she was a Goddess of Flowers and the season of Spring, and although a relatively minor figure in myth, also known as a deity, even a temple was constructed for her, plus there was a festival dedicated to Flora.

Now this particular golden statue of Flore was produced by Marcel Gimond who was born in the April of 1894, and initially studied Latin and Greek in order to become an architect, yet then changed focus towards art, becoming a student of famous French sculptors including Aristide Maillol.

Marcel Gimond became well recognised for his busts and portrait sculptures and his preferred material for working was always bronze, so hence with his background, the statue of Flore was an ideal commission for him being related to Greek and the origin of the name being Latin, plus it was designed and cast in bronze.

In fact, Flora is a well known term in English nowadays, as this Roman Goddess of Flowers and Spring had a twin sister called Fauna, who was the Goddess of animals and wildlife, so hence the term Flora and Fauna and this golden statue of Flora was put in place in 1937 for when the new Palais de Chaillot was opened for the Universal Exhibition in Paris.

So we mentioned earlier that the statue of Flore by Marcel Gimond is located on the Parvis des Droits de l'Homme, and this is the area between the two wings of the Palais de Chaillot, which has become a famous tourist attraction, especially for the elevated views of the Eiffel Tower.

But Flora is one of eight golden statues at the Palais de Chaillot, with four on either side of the square, and as you are facing the Eiffel Tower over the Esplanade and the Trocadero Gardens with the Place du Trocadero behind you, then this is the second statue on the left hand side.
