Charles Francois Nanteuil Leboeuf, normally just known as Nanteuil, was born in Paris in 1792 and having entered the Ecole des Beaux Arts studying to become a French sculptor, he won the Prix de Rome in 1817, which then led to numerous different public commissions.
A prolific French sculptor, he was commissioned for statues on the Louvre including this allegory of Art on the Pavillon Sully, along with statues for many other tourist attractions in Paris including the Gare du Nord, Madeleine Church, bas releifs for The Pantheon and numerous busts that are at the Chateau de Versailles, to name a few.
