This first HD photo shows the La Tempete statue, which in English translates to The Storm and this is an allegorical sculpture that was put in place on the former Palais du Louvre in 1868 during the restoration of the royal palace when hundreds of sculptors were employed to created decorative embellishments.
So, when you are in the Cour du Carrousel courtyard looking at the facade of the Musee du Louvre wing called the Pavillon des Etats, you can see this allegorical statue of La Tempete positioned by the roofline, and this is located on the return next to the Pavillon de Tremoille.
Now The Storm was produced by the French sculptor Roland Mathieu-Meunier who in fact taught the actress Sarah Bernhardt to sculpt, but another one of his more elegant and larger statues can be found at the Chateau Chantilly within the Conde Museum, which is another popular tourist attraction located just outside of Paris.
