This first HD photo shows a statue called Apollon in French, however, in English this would translate to Apollo, who is a complex and important deity in Greek mythology, and this figure has been sculpted and depicted in paintings etc for many centuries.
Apollo is often referred to as the God of Sun and Light, yet he is also known as the God of Truth and Prophecy, plus the God of Music when depicted with a musical instrument called a Lyre, and what you will also find is that Apollo is always made to look clean shaven and a very fit, athletic young man or youth.
So this next photograph shows the statue of Apollon to the left of the image, and a statue of Jeannette to the right, and both of these were sculpted by Paul Belmondo, and these were donated to the City of Paris by his children in 1988, six years after this French sculptor had passed away.
You will find that this type of pose and statue is referred to as a Kouros, which relates to ancient Greek sculptures representing nude male youths, mainly depicting Apollo in Greek mythology, and this figure has been sculpted many thousands of times by different artists over the centuries, and is a popular subject for sculptors including Paul Belmondo.
Yet this photo shows the location of the Apollon statue in the Jardin des Tuileries, which is in an area known as the Grand Couvert that is covered with trees, and although the Tuileries Gardens only used to contain historical statues, there are now several modern sculptures contained within this area of the former royal gardens.
And this last photograph shows the plaque relating to the Bronze Apollo statue, and although it is very hard to read, at the very bottom, it states that this was placed as a deposit within the funds of the national contemporary art. through the French Minister of Culture and Communication.
