This first HD photo shows the statue of Le Vendangeur located in a niche on the Aile de Flore wing of the former Palais du Louvre, which can be seen from the courtyard called the Cour du Carrousel on the first level of the facade, second from the right hand side.
And this statue was designed as an allegory to depict a Grape Picker, which is what Vendangeur translates to in English, so hence you can see that the man is holding a type of basket full with bunches of grapes that has just been picked from the vines, hence why there are also leaves showing as well.
Now this statue of The Grape Picker was produced by Seraphin Denecheau who was born in Angers in 1831, yet his name is sometimes also spelt Seraphin Denechaux or Seraphin Denechau, so this can get a little confusing.
Anyway, whatever way you choose to spell the name Seraphin Denecheau studied under Francois Rude and David d'Angers to become a French sculptor and received several commissions for different statues and sculptures on famous tourist attractions in Paris including this one of Le Vendangeur and several busts for the Palais Garnier opera house.
