This first HD photo shows the statue of Jeannette, which was sculpted in bronze Paul Belmondo who was actually born in Mustapha, Algiers in French Algeria in 1898 and initially began carving, yet studied architecture in his home city, before being mobilised for World War I, yet after the Great War, he obtained a grant to further his studies in Paris.
Paul Belmondo won the Prix de Rome, which led to numerous different public commissions for the French state, including working on the Palais de Chaillot, however, World War II interrupted things yet again, but afterwards, he became a professor at the Paris Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts in 1856 and still continued producing different art works such as this one of Jeannette.
So here you can see a side view of the bronze statue called Jeannette looking towards one of the cafes within the Tuileries Gardens in the distance, and after Paul Belmondo had passed away in Paris in 1982, his actor son Jean-Paul Belmondo and his film producer son, Alain Belmondo decided to donate this to the City of Paris.
Now you will find that the work of Paul Belmondo is classed as modern figurative sculpture that searches for harmony with smooth shapes and simple lines, yet one of his major works was a copy of The Dance located on the popular tourist attracting in Paris called the Palais Garnier Opera House, which replaced the original by the famous French sculptor Jean Baptiste Carpeaux.
But in this photograph you can also see another bronze statue, which was also produced by Paul Belmondo, and this is called Apollo, but the family, including his daughter and his grandson, the racing driver of the same name, decided to donate all of his works to a place just outside of Paris in order to open a museum, so you can get to see many more of his works of art including drawings and sketches.
And this last image shows a close up of the plaque that shows this was donated in 1988 by the son of the sculptor, Jean-Paul Belmondo who is an actor, and under the authority of the Minister of Culture and Communication in Paris the statue of Jeannette was placed within the funds of the National Contemporary Art.
