So here you can see an allegorical stone statue called L'Horticulture, which is no doubt self explanatory as to what this was designed to represent, and this was put in place on the Aile en retour Mollien back in 1857, during some of the renovations that were taking place on the former Palais du Louvre.
And when you are looking at the facade of this wing from the courtyard called the Cour Napoleon, you will see this on the pediment by the roof, positioned as the third statue from the left hand side, which was sculpted by Francois Devaulx.
Now Francois Devaulx was born in Paris in the April of 1808 and entered the Ecole des Beaux Arts, studying under Etienne Jules Ramey to become a French sculptor, winning a second prize in 1833, also participating in the Salons for French artists, which is where he got most recognition.
From then on, he started receiving different commissions, including some for The Louvre including the statue of The Horticulture and another for The Harvest, plus Francois Devaulx also received a medal for his composition of the Greek Warrior that now adorns another tourist attraction in Paris called the Pont d'Iena, but passed away at aged 62 in the January of 1871.
