L'Histoire translates in English to The History, and this stone allegorical statue can be found on the Aile Henri IV of the former Palais du Louvre, and when you are looking at the wing from the Cour Napoleon courtyard, this is the first small statue from the left hand side located on the upper level by the roof.
And it was during the Second Empire that this along with hundreds of other statues were put in place on the facades of The Louvre, which has made the architecture even more impressive and this former royal palace turned museum is now one of the most popular tourist attractions in Paris.
So this next HD photo shows a close up of L'Histoire statue, which is looking rather worn but standing the test of time, and this was produced by Francois Devaulx in the 1860s.
Now, Francois Devaulx was born in Paris in 1808 and entered the Ecole des Beaux Arts studying under Jules Ramey to become a French sculptor, winning a second prize for sculpture in 1833 and so he started presenting works at the Paris Salons.
Having been noticed for his work, he received a few commissions for statues on The Louvre including this one of The History and another elegant statue found within the Cour Carree, yet his most famous work is probably the Greek Warrior statue positioned on the Pont d'Iena.
