This first HD photo shows the statue of Pomone, which is located in a part of the Tuileries Gardens of the famous tourist attraction in Paris called the Musee du Louvre, and has been positioned in an area specifically designed to hold statues by Aristide Maillol called the Jardin du Carrousel.
Now this next image shows the back of the Pomone statue, and this was taken looking towards the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel, which you can see a part of in the background, and that is why this specific garden area holding Maillol statues was named the Jardin du Carrousel.
So the statue of Pomone translates in English to Pomona, and in Roman mythology Pomona is the Goddess of Fruit Abundance and the name originally comes from the Latin word Pomum, which means fruit, or more specifically orchard fruit.
And in this close up photograph you can see the statue of Pomona, the Goodess of Fruit Abundance holding orchard fruit in the form of apples in each hand, which was sculpted by Aristide Maillol in around 1910 and then a few different casts were made in bronze, and this one is from around the early 1920s.
Yet Aristide Maillol produced several different statues all relating to Pomona, and you can also discover another sculpture called Pomone Drapee located within the Jardin du Carrousel in Paris, and both of these, along with several others were donated by his last model and muse, Dina Vierny.
The statue of Pomona by Aristide Maillol along with the others were first put into the Tuileries Gardens in 1964, as Dina Vierny decided she wanted to promoted the works of this French sculptor and artist within a public area for everyone to be able to enjoy, yet she also went on to found a Maillol museum in Paris and another in Banyuls where he was born in 1861.
In fact Dina was with Aristide Maillol for the last ten years of his life, which came to an abrupt end after he was killed in a car accident in the south of France by his home town, yet through her dedication his name lives on, with numerous paintings, drawings, statues and sculptures by Maillol being found throughout the world.
But in this last HD photo, if you look very carefully at the base of the bronze statue, you will see that Aristide Maillol has signed his name in the form of a monogram, rather than A Maillol, and this monogram is located by the heel of the left foot.
