This first image shows the statue of La Vigilance, which is one of hundreds of allegorical sculptures on the former Palais du Louvre, and this particular one is depicting a young child carefully watching out surveying for possible dangers, hence why it is called vigilance.
And as you can tell, this is located on the roof line of the former royal palace that can be seen as the very first statue on the left hand side of the Aile Colbert, when you are looking at the wing from the Cour Napoleon courtyard.
Now this statue was sculpted by Aime Millet who was born in Paris in 1819 and initially studying drawing and painting, he then became a pupil of David d'Angers to become a French sculptor, and this is what he is most recognised for.
In fact, several works by Aime Millet can be found at numerous different tourist attractions in Paris such as within the Tuileries Gardens, in the courtyard of the Musee d'Orsay and on the top of the Palais Garnier opera house, plus he executed other statues for The Louvre including this one of Vigilance.
Aine Millet was also awarded the Legion of Honour in 1859 and a few years later also became a professor teaching budding artists prior to retiring and passing away in 1891, yet his name lives on and the impressive statues will no doubt be around for many future generations to enjoy.
