So this first photo shows the sculpted pediment on the top of the Denon Pavilion wing of the former Palais du Louvre, which depicts a scene called Napoleon III entoure de la paix et des arts, and in English this translates to Napoleon III surrounded by peace and arts.
Now this was sculpted by Pierre Simart who was born in Troyes in 1806 and having been at the drawing school in his home town he managed to get a grant to study in Paris, and won the Prix de Rome in 1832, furthering his studies at the Villa medici in Italy before returning to Paris.
Upon his return Pierre Simart was commissioned to work on the Tomb of Napoleon at Les Invalides and later also provided with public commissions for other tourist attractions in Paris. This included this one of the Napoleon III surrounded by peace and arts sculpture, yet tragically, after a fall from an omnibus, he had complications and died suddenly in 1857, which was the same year that this sculpture was put in place.
However, we took this HD photograph showing the location of the pediment of the Napoleon III entoure de la paix et des arts, which was while within the courtyard of The Louvre named the Cour Napoleon, and we were standing on the opposite side of one of the very modern features of the pyramids.
