This statue is called Fillette a la Coquille, which in English translates to Girl with a Shell, which is a very apt name for the sculpture with a girl holding a shell to her ear and as you can see it just one of the many ornamental features of the Pont Alexandre III.
However, this is one of a set of sculptures that are also referred to as Genies avec des poissons ou des coquillages, which again in English translates to Geniuses with fish or shellfish, hence there is also a fish beside her on this statue.
You will find that this statue was sculpted in bronze by Leopold Morice and the Fillette a la Coquille was inaugurated in 1900 when the bridge was first opened for the World Fair in Paris.
But to give you more of an idea as to its location, Girl with a Shell is positioned on the right bank next to the North East column that is topped with a golden Pegasus statue, close to another tourist attraction called the Petit Palais, and this on the upstream side of the River Seine in the 8th Arrondissement.
Now this close up photo shows where the artist has inscribed his name onto the base of the statue, and Leopold Morice became a well recognised French sculptor, receiving commissions for monuments in public places throughout France such as within his home town of Nimes in the Languedoc-Roussillon region.
And as well as this sculpture of the Girl with a Shell, he also sculpted another of the Genies avec des poissons ou des coquillages, which is located directly opposite on the other side of the bridge, yet his most famous work, and no doubt the most elaborate, is the statue at the Place de la Republique in Paris called Marianne, with the pedestal for this being produced by his architect brother.
