This first HD photo shows a sculpture made of bronze called the Enfant au Crabe, which in English translates to Child with Crab, however, this is one of a set of sculptures that is sometimes also referred to as Genies avec des poissons ou des coquillages, or Geniuses with fish or shellfish.
Now this is located on the Pont Alexandre III, which is known as the most extravagant and ornate bridge in Paris that was constructed for the 1900 Universal Exposition, and you can probably see why from this image that also shows an ornate candelabra as well as the Child with Crab statue.
And to give you even more of an idea as to its exact location, this is on the right bank side of the Pont Alexandre III close to the Grand Palais and is positioned on the downstream side of the River Seine next to one of the four columns which have the golden statues on, that is the North West corner of the bridge.
So when you look at this close up photo you can see why it is called Enfant au Crabe, due to there being a crab by where the child is kneeling, and sculpted by Leopold Morice, this was inaugurated in 1900 when the Pont Alexandre III was officially opened for the World Fair that same year.
Yet you can no doubt understand why this is referred to as one of the Genies avec des poissons ou des coquillages, as you can see a rather strange and almost scary looking fish that the child is on top of, which as we mentioned before is made of bronze.
But here you can see the Enfant au Crabe, or Child with Crab statue as we were looking over the River Seine downstream towards the Pont des Invalides and the most famous tourist attraction in Paris of the Eiffel Tower, which is in the background.
However, this next close up HD photo shows where the artist Leopold Morice inscribed his name on the base of the statue, and born in Nimes in 1846, he became an apprentice within the studio of Auguste Bosc, then Francois Jouffroy, before entering the Ecole des Beaux Arts at the age of 19.
And from the 1870s Leopold Morice received numerous commissions for various monuments throughout France along with other sculptures including this and another on the same theme for the Pont Alexandre III, but his most famous work is the enormous statue group located at the Place de la Republique in Paris.
