This first HD photo shows a statue called L'Abondance that has been positioned on the third level balustrade by the roof line of the Aile Mollien, and when you are looking at this facade of The Louvre from the courtyard called the Cour Napoleon, you will see that this is located ninth from the left hand side, or second from the right.
L'Abondance translates in English to The Abundance, and this is an allegorical statue depicting a great harvest and hence an abundance of food and grains that the young child is holding, and made of stone, this was one of the numerous statues put in place on the former Palais du Louvre during the restoration works and embellishments that were added between the years 1855 and 1857.
Now this particular Abundance statue was produced by Andre Vauthier-Galle who was born in Paris with a name of Andre Vauthier, yet he studied to become a medalist, engraver and sculpture under his grandfather Andre Galle, so hence he changed his surname to Vauthier-Galle.
And although he was commissioned for this particular statue on the Louvre Museum, Andre Vauthier-Galle is most well known for producing medals as well as the design of currencies for the French mint, but he also held a position at the stamp workshop in Paris from 1837 through to 1878.
