This first HD photo shows the central statue on the Pont des Invalides, which is called La Victoire Terrestre in French, and translated into English this is Land Victory. This was sculpted in stone for the new pier when this was added to the bridge for additional support back in 1854.
Now this next close up photograph shows the allegorical statue designed to represent land victory, and unfortunately, as you can tell, the weather conditions over time have taken their toll on the statue, but if you look carefully next to the cannon by the base, it states the name of the artist and the year of completion, which was 1853.
And this was produced by Nicolas Victor Vilain, often just referred to as Victor Vilain, who was born in Paris in 1818 and entered the Ecole des Beaux Arts in 1834 to study and become a French sculptor, presenting his first works at a Paris Salon in 1838.
He became a prolific sculptor and Victor Vilain received numerous public and private commissions including some for the Palais du Louvre along with different churches in Paris plus many portrait statues, not forgetting the Victoire Terrestre on the Pont des Invalides.
Yet this last image shows the western side of the Pont des Invalides with the allegorical statue on the central pier, and from where we are standing at the Port de la Conference in the 8th Arrondissement close to famous tourist attractions like the Grand Palais, you can see the bridge going over the River Seine to the 7th Arrondissement and the Quai d'Orsay.
