So this first HD photo shows one of the sculptures located on the side of the Pont des Invalides above the pier, known as a Military Trophy, and originally these had the Imperial coat of arms showing, and this particular one represents maritime.
There are an additional three military victories showing on the piers, two representing maritime, and two representing land, which have the same theme as the two central allegorical statues, and these particular sculptures were produced by Astyanax Scevola Bosio.
Now you can see in this close up photograph the detailing that went into producing this sculpture with the ropes and anchors representing maritime, and this was completed in 1862 by Astyanax Bosio who even fought in the Battle of Waterloo before becoming a French sculptor.
And after first presenting a work at the 1831 Paris Salon, he started to receive several public commissions that included works for famous tourist attractions in Paris such as the Arc de Triomphe, the Cirque d'Hiver and the Palais du Louvre, not forgetting these military trophy shields on the Pont des Invalides.
Yet this last image shows the Pont des Invalides western side with two of the military shield trophies and the central statue that goes over the River Seine from the 8th Arrondissement close to the Grand Palais, which is where we were standing, looking over to the 7th Arrondissement and the Quai d'Orsay.
