This stone statue was produced by Charles Emile Marie Seurre, who is also known as Seurre the Younger, yet his surname is also sometimes spelt Seure, and born in Paris on 22nd February 1798, he became a French sculptor, just as his elder brother did.
And winning the Prix de Rome in 1824, he became known for his portrait style statues of great men, with probably his most famous work being the statue of Napoleon Bonaparte, which can be seen from the courtyard at Les Invalides, yet he was also commissioned for statues and sculptures on The Louvre Museum including this one of Amazone.
Now, in Greek mythology you will find that an Amazon, spelt Amazone in French, was one of the women warriors, however the name began to refer to female warriors in general, and just like you can see in this photo they are often portrayed with their left breast covered, yet not the right.
So to discover this allegorical statue of Amazon, you would need to be looking up to the second level of the facade on the Grande Galerie Orientale wing, and this is classed as part of the Cour Napoleon courtyard.
