This first HD photo shows the allegorical statue called Le Pecheur, which translates in English to The Fisherman, and produced in 1857, you can see this on the upper level of the Grande Galerie Orientale wing, which is located on the outside edge of the Louvre Museum overlooking the River Seine.
So this statue of The Fisherman was produced by Charles Gumery who was born in Paris in 1827, and studying to become a French sculptor at the Ecole des Beaux Arts, he was a pupil of Armand Toussaint.
Becoming a prominent sculptor during the Second Empire, he was commissioned by Charles Garnier to produce gilded statues for the Palais Garnier Opera House, along with other public commissions including some for the Palais du Louvre including Le Pecheur, plus Charles Gumery even taught at the Ecole des Beaux Arts, yet unfortunately he died in strange circumstances during the Paris Commune and the Siege of Paris in 1871.
