This first HD photograph shows the allegorical statue called Le Commerce, which can be found in a niche on the Grande Galerie Orientale, and can be seen from the River Seine side, but the wing is also referred to as being part of the Cour Napoleon courtyard, which would be behind.
Now this statue of Commerce was produced by Gustave Adolphe Desire Crauk who was born in Valenciennes in the July of 1827, and studying with artists such Augustin Dumont, he became a French sculptor and won the Prix de Rome in 1851.
After winning the Prix de Rome, Gustave Crauk received numerous public commissions for churches including Saint-Eustace along with historical buildings including The Louvre, and was first awarded the Legion of Honour in 1878, then a higher title of Commander in 1903, and retiring back to his home town, he passed away in 1905 after a very successful career.
