HD photographs of God of War statue on the Grande Galerie at Musee du Louvre - Page 490
Again we were admiring the facade of the Grande Galerie Orientale of the Musee du Louvre located in the 1st Arrondissement of Paris, when we took these high definition photos showing a statue by Jean Claude Petit depicting Mars, the God of War.

So this first HD photo shows the statue of Mars positioned within a niche on the upper level of the Grande Galerie Orientale wing of the former Palais du Louvre, which was sculpted by Jean Claude Petit back in 1857 and can be seen from the River Seine side of the Louvre Museum.
And this stone statue was designed to represent Mars, who was the God of War in Roman mythology and in ancient Roman religion Mars was the most prominent of the military gods and second in importance after Jupiter.
Yet Mars was also classed as a guardian of agriculture, and although his Greek counterpart would be Ares, in Roman mythology he was represented as being a force for military securing peace, rather than destruction.
