Now the actual Pavillon de Marsan is classed as within the Cour du Carrousel courtyard of the Musee du Louvre, however, you will find that this also faces towards the Place du Carrousel and the Tuileries Gardens as well, which are all within the 1st Arrondissement of Paris.
And this statue group, as you can see from these pictures, is located at the top of the Pavillon next to the roof edge on the south side, and these were produced in 1878 by Eugene Delaplanche, who was born in February 1836 and became a French sculptor winning the Prix de Rome in 1864.
So having spent a few years at the Villa Medici in Rome furthering his studies, he returned to Paris and received several commissions for decorations of tourist attractions such as the former Palais du Louvre and for places like the Hotel de Ville and the Palais Garnier opera house, and his works can now be seen in museums such as the Musee d'Orsay.
