Now this first HD photo shows the statue, which is an allegory depicting Navigation, and as you can tell this is located on a balustrade, and when you are looking at the Pavillon des Etats facade from the Cour du Carrousel, this is positioned third from the left hand side on the first level.
So, La Navigation was produced by Pierre Loison who was born on 5th July 1816 and was initially a shoemaker's apprentice, however, his skill of carving was noticed and he became a pupil of David d'Angers to become a French sculptor.
Pierre Loison first exhibited at a Paris Salon in 1845, and from then on he started to receive numerous commissions, with no less than nine different decorative sculptures for the Louvre Museum including this statue La Navigation that was put in place in 1868.
