This first HD photo shows the full stone statue depicting Ange-Jacques Gabriel who was born on 23rd October 1698 to a family of architects, which is why you can see a building positioned by his feet, as he followed in his fathers footsteps, becoming the Premier architect in France.
Ange-Jacques Gabriel continued his role of chief architect throughout most of the reign of King Louis XV, and designed many monumental buildings that can still be seen today such as the Ecole Militaire and the Hotel de Crillon in Paris, the Petit Trianon at the Chateau de Versailles, and many other historical monuments, prior to passing away in Paris in 1782.
Now this stone statue was sculpted by Xavier Marie Auguste Courtet, who was normally known as Augustin Courtet, and born on 29th July 1821 in Lyon, he became a French sculptor and married while living in Paris, which is where he remained for the rest of his life, having produced many different works that can be seen in public places and on tombs.
And in this last close up photograph showing the base of the stone statue, you can see that the end of the name has broken off, but fortunately the rest is still in good condition, considering it was put in place back in 1857.
So if you happen to be within the Cour Napoleon courtyard of the former Palais du Louvre, you can see this statue of Gabriel positioned on the first level of the Rotonde d'Apollon wing of the Louvre Museum, and when looking at this particular facade, it is position second from the right hand side.
