So this particular statue of Suger is located on the first level balustrade of the Aile Colbert wing of the former Palais du Louvre, and this was put in place in 1857 and is positioned virtually in the middle, or the fifth statue from the left to be precise.
Now this next HD photo showing the statue of Suger, was actually produced by Nicolas Bernard Raggi who was born in Carrara, Italy, yet moved to France and became a French citizen in 1828, where he became a respected French sculptor and worked on numerous commissions for buildings such as The Louvre and the Madeleine church in Paris.
And this last image shows the base of the statue with the name of Suger, and little is known about his family, full name or even exactly when he was born, but he became a French Abbot, and the foremost historian of his time.
Yet being a friend and confidant of the King Louis VI and King Louis VII, he was also instrumental in the improvements and rebuilding of the Saint-Denis church, now recognised as the Saint-Denis Basilica, located just outside of Paris where the Kings and French monarchs are buried, and as such is also known as one of the earliest patrons of Gothic architecture prior to his death in January 1151.
