So this first HD photo shows the statue itself, which is made of marble, and although it is now named The Winter or in French l'Hiver, for many, many years, this statue remained anonymous.
And apparently, according to the French Senate, who reside at the Palais du Luxembourg and oversee the Luxembourg Gardens and its monuments, this marble statue was originally located at the Chateau de Sceaux, and was meant to be placed in one of the two older museums including the Museum of French Monuments.
Now this next HD photo shows the whole statue on its base surrounded by a pretty flowerbed and well kept lawns, and the statue itself stands at 2.6 metres in height not including its base.
This photograph shows the front of the l'Hiver statue which again, according to the French Senate, has eventually been attributed to the artist and sculptor Michel Anguier, which means it dates back to the 1600s.
But there were in fact two brothers who became French sculptors, with Michel Anguier being the younger brother born in 1612, yet both also worked on different statues and sculptures for famous places in the City of Paris and Michel worked on places including the Val de Grace church and the apartments for Anne of Austria.
So even though the origins of this marble statue of Winter are still very vague, this was found to be on an inventory of the statues in Luxembourg gardens back in 1802, which is where it still remains today within one of the famous tourist attractions in Paris.
And in this last HD photo, you can see the statue with another in the distance, which provides a perspective of how vast these free public gardens in Paris truly are, and the Statue l'Hiver is located on the western side of the gardens.
