So in this first HD photo you can see one of over a hundred different statues in Luxembourg Gardens, and this one called Flore, is located on the lower level on the eastern side of the large basin, or pond, which is situated in front of the Palais du Luxembourg.
Now there are actually two terraces which surround the central part of the Jardin du Luxembourg, and in this photograph you can see the back of the Flore statue, as we were looking down from one of these.
Here you can see a close up showing the full marble statue, called Flore, which translates to Flora in English and this is a replica of an original that was once within the gardens centuries ago.
Unfortunately, there are no specific details about the Flore statue, and even the artist that produced this sculpture is unknown, which is the same scenario for when it was produced, but there was an inventory produced using the French artillery system called the Year XI system developed during the reign of Napoleon Bonaparte, which showed there were two original statues named Flore located here.
Now this photo shows a side view of the Flora marble statue, which as we have previously mentioned is a replica of the original, yet there are in fact two statues named Flore that are located on opposite sides of the basin, and this is the eastern side statue.
And in this close up photo of the Flore statue you can see that there are metal spikes sticking up from the marble head and these are actually put in place to stop birds such as pigeons flying down and landing on the statues, hence, this helps to protect them for future generations to enjoy as well.
With well kept lawns, numerous flower borders, trees and beautiful flower arrangements in old stone pots like you can see in this last image, the Luxembourg Gardens has a lot to offer and is a popular tourist destination for its statues as well as a place where locals come to relax utilising the free green chairs that are put out and jogging amidst the greenery in the heart of city.
