This first photograph shows the bronze bust of Samuel de Champlain who was born in 1574, although the exact date is unknown, and positioned on a stone pedestal, this is located within the Jardin de la Nouvelle France in the gardens of the Grand Palais next to the Avenue Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
Here you can see a close up photo we took of the bronze bust of Samuel de Champlain who was a French explorer, navigator, cartographer and diplomat who founded New France and Quebec, being referred to as The Father of New France, which is very apt for where the statue is located, as we mentioned above.
You will find that Samuel Champlain was also very important to Canadian history because after some explorations he made the first accurate map of the coast and he also helped establish the settlements, and literally opposite the statue at the intersection is where you will find the Place du Canada in Paris.
And in this image you can see the inscription on the base, that states Samuel Champlain of Brouage in Saintonge, and the next part generally translates in English to; With Pierre Dugua de Mons and his companions founded the first permanent French establishment in Canada and then in Quebec in 1608.
But right near the very bottom of the pedestal there is an additional inscription that you can see in this image, which states that the bronze bust was offered to Paris by the Power Corporation of Canada on 26 June 2004, and underneath is the name of the artist Alfred Laliberte who originally produced the bronze bust of Samuel Champlain.
And Alfred Laliberte was a Canadian sculptor and painter born in May 1878, and based in Montreal, during his lifetime he produced more than 900 different sculptures in bronze, marble, wood, and plaster, many of, which, like this one, were designed to depict national figures and events in Canada and France.
And last, but not least, this HD photo shows the full side view of the bronze bust of Samuel Champlain on the top of its tall pedestal surrounded by greenery within the Jardin de la Nouvelle France, or translated this means Garden of the New France, which as you have already read, Samuel established, who actually passed away on 25 December 1635 in Quebec City, Canada.
