In this first image you can see the statue called Il Dispetto, which is located close to the entrance of the Luxembourg Gardens near the Rue Soufflot, which is why you can see the railings adorned with poster boards behind, and this was put in place in the 1800s.
So in this photo you can see a close up of the statue, which was named Il Dispetto, and this was originally produced as a plaster model that was presented by the artist Jean Valette at one of the Paris Salons back in 1868, before the full size marble statue was sculpted and presented at another Salon for art works.
And here is a side view we took of the Il Dispetto statue, which in English generally translates to In Spite, however, this can also mean frustrated or annoyed, and the artist, Jean Valette, sculpted the statue to represent a frustrated young musician.
Now, the sculptor Jean Valette was born in 1825 within the Cher area of France, which is now within the Centre region, but moving to and studying in Paris he presented his works at many Salons, yet ironically the name of the statue you can see in this image is Italian.
So carrying on where we left off, with this last image of the marble statue Il Dispetto by Jean Valette, you will find that he actually presented this to a Paris Salon in 1872, and with the Senate having already acquired the plaster model, the finished sculpture was then at the 1878 Salon before being placed within gardens of the Palais du Luxembourg, where you can see this today, which by the way, is also home to the French Senate.
