As you can see from this first photograph, this monumental statue La Ville de Marseille, is located at the top on the main facade of the Gare de Lyon just above a round window, and this was produced by the artist Emile Peynot in 1899 when the train station was being constructed.
Now this particular statue group, La Ville de Marseille, or the City of Marseille as it translates to in English, was produced by Emile Peynot as an allegory in recognition for when one of the train lines went from the Gare de Lyon to this city.
To discover the La Ville de Marseille for yourself, it is located on the south west facade of the Gare de Lyon in the 12th Arrondissement of Paris, with the best views being from partial pedestrianised square that sits in front of the train station.
