This particular marble statue was produced by the French artist and sculptor Felix Sanzel, back in 1868, and it is called either l'Amour Prisonnier or more commonly, l'Amour Captif, which generally translates to Captive Love.
Now as you can see from this photo, its name l'Amour Prisonnier or Captive Love, is very appropriate, as you can see a figure looking up longingly to another, and this statue was designed to represent Amour, the God of love, or the God of falling in love, looking up to a Satyr or Faune, who were mythical creatures with a human top half and goat bottom half, that were meant to scare people, yet look after human fertility.
Also, as you can see in these photos, the marble statue has been placed right next to a rose bed, which is within the rosery section of the Jardin des Plantes botanical gardens, again emphasising the romantic mature of this artistic sculpture by Felix Sanzel.
This is a side on photograph that we took to show another angle of the statue called l'Amour Captif, and as we mentioned before, this was produced by Felix Sanzel who was born in Paris in 1829, and he was awarded a medal for this piece of art when he exhibited the marble sculpture at a Paris Salon prior to it being installed in the Jardin des Plantes, which is where you can still discover this statue today.
