When you are looking at the Aile de Flore of the former Palais du Louvre from the courtyard called the Cour du Carrousel, you will see that there are bas reliefs located either side of the windows on the third level, and this particular one is positioned to the right hand side of the second window from the left of this wing.
However this next HD photo shows a close up of the bas relief, which looks as though it depicts an ancient warrior, although we have been unable to find out a name for it, yet this was produced by Charles Gumery and put in place in the 1860s.
And born Charles Alphonse Achille Gumery in 1827, he studied to become a French sculptor winning the Prix de Rome in 1850, which then led to numerous public commissions from the state for tourist attractions in Paris such as the Opera Garnier, Fontaine Saint Michel, Jardin Marco Polo, Gare du Nord and several for The Louvre.
Charles Gumery also received several medals throughout his career and was awarded the Legion of Honour in 1867, four years before passing away in his home city of Paris, yet many works can now be seen in museums and different places throughout France.
