HD photographs of Goddess of Fruit Trees statue inside Jardins du Trocadero - Page1189
We were in the 16th Arrondissement of Paris at the Jardins du Trocadero, when we took these high definition photos showing a statue called Pomone, or Pomona, the Goddess of Fruit Trees, Gardens and Orchards, which was sculpted by Robert Wlerick.

In this first HD photo you can see the stone statue of Pomone, which in English is spelt Pomona, and the name comes from the Latin word Pomum that means fruit, and hence why in Roman mythology Pomona was the Goddess of Fruit, Gardens and Orchards, also known as the Goddess of Fruitful Abundance.
And this statue of Pomone was produced by Robert Wlerick for the 1937 Universal Exhibition in Paris, also known as a World Fair, which was when the new Palais de Chaillot was constructed and many statues were sculpted for the Trocadero Gardens.
So this photo shows the location of the Pomona statue at the bottom of the stairs that lead up to the Esplanade du Trocadero and the Palais de Chaillot, and is opposite another allegorical statue by a different artist.
Now Robert Wlerick was born in Mont-de-Marsan in 1882 to a family of cabinet makers and having studied drawing he then entered the school of fine arts in Toulouse, but was drafted for military service, and after this moved to Paris to focus on sculpture.
And even though he did not have formal training, his works were noticed and he received several commissions for different statues and monuments at tourist attractions in Paris including this one of the Goddess of Fruit Trees, Gardens and Orchards, yet he also taught until retiring in 1943.
But still continuing to sculpt, one of his recognised works is the Monument to Marshal Foch, although this was completed by Raymond Martin when Robert Wlerick passed away in 1944, yet his works can now be found in many museums throughout France and within his home town.
