This first HD photo shows a statue of Joachim Murit positioned within a niche on the wing of The Louvre called the Aile de Rohan-Rivoli, which was originally instigated back in 1910, but according to several sources, this was placed on the facade in 1915.
Now this particular statue was produced by Victor Peter who was born in Paris in 1840 and studied under renowned sculptors such as Jules Dalou and Auguste Rodin, eventually becoming a professor at the Ecole des Beaux Arts, plus winning several medals and awards along the way including a gold medal at the 1900 Universal Exhibition in Paris.
Victor Peter was commissioned for one of the statues representing generals and marshals of France for The Louvre, yet he was also well recognised for models of medals along with animal sculptures and bas reliefs including an animal group called Les Oursons that is located at the Square Saint-Lambert in Paris.
You will find that Joachin Murat was born in 1767 and originally was destined to have a life within the church, but seeing a cavalry regiment pass by he ran off from the seminary and enlisted, although this was not to be long lived.
Yet Murat redeemed himself when he retrieved artillery from the suburbs and transported them to the centre of Paris for Napoleon Bonaparte and became one of Napoleon's best officers, being made a colonel.
However, Joachim Murat also had titles bestowed upon him such as 1st Prince of Murat, Grand Duke of Berg plus he ended up marrying the younger sister of Napoleon and became King of Naples between 1808 and 1815, not forgetting he was made a Marshal of France, but with the fall of Napoleon things went horribly wrong and after being captured Murat was shot by a firing squad.
We mentioned earlier that this statue of Murat is located on the wing called the Aile de Rohan-Rivoli, within a niche on the 1st level and facing the Rue de Rivoli, which is part of the facade that is home to several museums and a restaurant, as you can see from the banners on either side.
