It was back in 1910 that statues representing generals and Marshals of France, especially those serving Napoleon Bonaparte, were first thought of and commissioned to different artists.
However, World War I intervened, so the statues you can see within niches on the Aile de Rohgan-Rivoli wing of the famous Louvre Museum were only put in place in the 1920s, including this one depicting Antoine-Charles-Louis, Comte de Lasalle.
You will find that this statue of Lasalle was produced by Georges Louis Charles Busson who was born in 1859 and known as just Louis Busson, he became a renowned artist and sculptor, and according to some sources it was put in place in 1921, which was 12 years before Louis Busson passed away.
Antoine-Charles-Louis, Comte de Lasalle was born in Metz in 1775 and with his father being an officer within the French army, he also followed a military career, becoming known as fearless and a daring adventurer.
Lasalle became renowned during the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, serving in the cavalry, becoming a general who was well respected by Napoleon Bonaparte himself. Unfortunately during the Battle of Wagram he was shot initially in the chest although Lasalle continued to charge, but was shot again in the head leading to instant death at the young age of 34.
Antoine-Charles-Louis, Comte de Lasalle also fought in the Battle of Rivoli gaining him an even greater reputation, so it is fitting that the statue of Lasalle by Louis Busson is positioned on the wing of The Louvre called the Aile de Rohan-Rivoli, which can be found on the second level facing the Rue de Rivoli.
