Located within an alcove on the facade of the Aile de Rohan-Rivoli wing of the Louvre Museum, you can see one of many statues representing different military personnel such as generals including this one of Thomas Bugeaud.
In this HD photo you can see a close up of the Bugeaud statue, which we believe was sculpted by Charles Perron who was born in 1862 with a full name of Charles Theodore Perron and studying to become a French sculptor, he ended up receiving several mentions and awards at different exhibitions including the 1900 World Fair in Paris.
Located on the pedestal base of the statue the surname Bugeaud is inscribed, and the statue is dressed in uniform to represent Thomas Robert Bugeaud, Marquis de la Piconneries, Duc d'isly, who was born in Limoges, France to a noble family in 1784.
Starting out as a soldier, Thomas Bugeaud was involved in campaigns under Napoleon Bonaparte, eventually distinguishing himself and progressing up the ranks, although he returned to agriculture after the fall of Napoleon before the July Monarchy where he eventually became governing general of Nigeria and then was made a Marshal of France.
Due to his writings that were numerous and continued to be influential after he passed away, Thomas Bugeaud was one of the military personnel chosen to be represented on the exterior wing of The Louvre called the Aile de Rohan-Rivoli, which is positioned on the second level, facing the Rue de Rivoli, close to the entrance of the Musee des Arts Decoratifs.
