This first HD photo shows a statue called La Science, which is an allegory designed with a wing figure to represent different forms of science, and measuring a height of approximately 2.4 metres, this was sculpted in stone in 1830, and is one of eight statues on the facade of the Palais Royal.
Now here you can see a close up photograph showing the detailing that went into producing the Commerce statue, which was by Antoine Francois Gerard, who was born in Paris in 1760 and studied at the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture under Jean Guillaume Moitte, and throughout his career, he received many orders from the French State.
The above image shows La Commerce statue positioned by the balustrade on the third level of the Palais Royal, which is now home to the Conseil d'Etat, or Council of the State, and this is the facade that faces onto the main inner courtyard and garden of the former royal palace.
And we took this photo from the inner courtyard, showing four of the eight statues, and all of these four on the right hand side section were sculpted by Antoine Francois Gerard, with The Commerce being on the far left hand side, yet he worked on many other tourist attractions in Paris as well, including the famous Arc de Triomphe and The Louvre.
