This first HD photo shows a statue called L'Agriculture, which is an allegory with a winged female figure holding a scythe in her right hand with grains to that side and her left arm and hand is supporting an abundance of fruit, which was sculpted in stone in 1830.
Measuring approximately 2.4 metres in height, this allegorical statue of Agriculture was produced by Antoine Francois Gerard, who was born in 1760, and studying under Jean Guillaume Moitte to become a sculptor, he won the Prix de Rome in 1789, which meant he could further his studies and career at the French Academy in Italy.
Upon his return, Antoine Francois Gerard received numerous public commissions to adorn different monuments around his home city of Paris, and can be found on tourist attractions such as the Chapelle Expiatoire, Colonne Vendome, The Louvre and four for the Palais Royal, to name a few.
However, this photograph shows the location of the L'Agriculture statue positioned on the third level balustrade of the Palais Royal facade that faces onto the inner main courtyard and garden, with this particular one being the third from the left, on the right hand side section of the facade.
Yet there are actually eight statues in total, and starting in 2001, all of these have been restored to their former glory, which was instigated by the Council of the State, spelt Conseil d'Etat in French, who now occupy this part of the former royal palace, and this restoration project was overseen by the chief architect for historical monuments.
