This first HD photo shows a statue called Diane avec des chiens, which in English translates to Diane with dogs, however, this is sometimes just referred to as Groupe d'animaux, or Group of animals, and there are four different sets of these that were first sculpted in 1866.
Here you can see a close up photograph showing a female figure and one of the dogs to the left hand side with its collar and chain, and this was produced by Auguste Nicolas Cain who was born in Paris in 1821 and studied to become a French sculptor and ended up marrying the daughter of one of his tutors.
Auguste Nicolas Cain became a renowned animalier, or sculptor of animals, and today many of his statues can be seen at tourist attractions such as at the Jardin du Luxembourg, Jardin des Tuileries, Chateau de Chantilly and at the former Palais du Louvre.
Now this statue group of Diane with dogs was reproduced several time for the Aile and the Aile de Marsan wings of The Louvre, with this particular one being positioned below the pediment and above a bas relief to the left hand side of the first window on the Aile de Marsan, which can be seen from the courtyard called the Cour du Carrousel.
