Even though the Palais Royal dates far further back, this first HD photo shows a statue called a Trophee, which is one of several that are referred to as Les Trophees du Conseil d'Etat, and in English this translates to The Trophies of the Council of the State, which were positioned on the facade of the Palais Royal in the 1870s.
Now here you can see a close up photograph showing some of the detailing that went into producing this particular Trophy statue, which was by Martial Adolphe Thabard, who was born in Limoges in 1831, and from a family of porcelain craftsmen, he initially began with modelling lessons, yet also studied anatomy, prior to entering the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris under the direction of Francisque Duret.
Martial Adolphe Thabard became well recognised as a decorative arts sculptor, producing many figurines, however, he also produced monuments and portrait statues, many of which can be found in his home town, although some were for commissions at tourist attractions in Paris including the Palais Royal and the Hotel de Ville.
Now here you can see the position of the Trophee, which as we mentioned earlier is classed as one of Les Trophees du Conseil d'Etat, and this is located by the balustrade on the central pavilion of the Palais Royal, home to the Council of the State, and to the right hand side of the pediment holding the clock, this faces the courtyard and Place du Palais Royal by the Rue Saint Honore.
