This first HD photo shows a sculpture of Christ on the Cross, which refers to the Crucifixion of Jesus, and the word crucifixion comes from the Latin word crucifixio that literally means fixed to a cross, and this was a horrific form of torture and death by execution in the ancient world, with accounts being recorded among early civilisations.
Jesus Christ is the main figure in Christianity and in this close up photograph you can see one of the tortures he was subjected to with the Crown of Thorns upon his head prior to being nailed to the Roman cross, which is recorded in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John within the Holy Bible, and through religious teachings the death of Christ was a sacrifice for the sins of mankind, which has made this one of the most recognisable symbols of Christianity.
Unfortunately we have been unable to find out who produced this particular sculpture of Christ on the Cross, yet you will find this located positioned on one of the square pillars within the Nave section of the Eglise Saint-Roch, which faces opposite the pulpit, and as you have entered the church from the Rue Saint Honore, this can be found in the central section on the right hand side.
